MEET MATT

Because Matt Acuff began playing competitive golf when he was five years old, he offers a unique combination of teaching and playing experience. After playing golf for many years on many different levels, Matt decided to turn his passion for the game into a profession.

He works diligently not only for his love for the game but because he is passionate about serving and giving to others which is very apparent to anyone who has experienced his teachings.

Matt has taught players of all levels and capabilities, working with Club Champions, aspiring tour professionals, golfers with disabilities, adults, seniors, and elite junior golfers helping them all find their True North. With over 30 years of teaching experience, Matt has made a strong impact in junior golf. One of his treasured accomplishments is every elite junior he has taught has earned a college golf scholarship including teaching the first golfer with Down syndrome in history to earn a college golf scholarship.

What makes Matt an excellent teacher is his uncanny ability to understand the golf swing of each student. No two swings are alike. Matt has an instinct to see what people are doing right and what needs to be changed, and then finds a way to clearly communicate the improvement process in the fastest and best way possible. Matt will explain the same concept a hundred different ways if needed until he can find the one way that makes the student’s light bulb go on. Once that light bulb goes on in the student’s head, they own it.

ABOUT US

True North Golf School believes in a golf swing that uses natural biomechanics in the way the body is designed to move. Instruction is tailored to each student helping them to find their most natural, effective and powerful swing, while increasing the longevity of their golf game. Our students can play the game for many years because we design the golf swing to work with the body which reduces injuries, inconsistencies and poor performance.

What sets True North apart is we believe in relationship-based teaching and not transactional-based teaching. We do teach by the hour, just like any golf school, but the charm of True North Golf School and the secret to why people improve faster is that we don’t work on Band-Aids and quick fixes but on permanent solutions, building a strong foundation so that each student becomes their own best teacher. We know we can’t be there for every swing.
